GroupSRC recently launched a project called the “Trees Subreddit Video Donation Drive”. We are asking subscribers of /r/Trees, a popular marijuana subreddit, to donate videos of themselves answering the question, “Why do you think marijuana should be legalized?”. In return, we are donating $10 to the Marijuana Policy Project for each video that is submitted. We will also make a final compilation video of all the submissions which we hope to spread around the internet to promote the cause.
We try not to get political here at GroupSRC.com, but this is an idea that we have been thinking about for a while and we had to try it out with a cause we believe in. Marijuana laws are a hot topic right now and with the unofficial marijuana holiday coming up (April 20th), we decided this would be a good time to give this idea a try.
So far, things are not going very well. Our initial post to /r/Trees did pretty well in the subreddit, but it did not “explode” and we have only received three submissions so far (two from ourselves). Many subscribers liked the idea of crowdsourcing videos and even promised to upload a video, but most have not followed through.
If we could reach more eyeballs, the project would likely reach the 50 video target. Partnering with the moderators of /r/Trees might help make that happen. If the project fizzles out, then we will likely try again with a higher dollar amount or by partnering with other marijuana supporters that can help us promote the project.
