The biggest knock on reddit that we hear is that the website design and user experience is intimidating. Enter reddit’s new AMA mobile app. The app has an awesome user interface that makes it easy to consume reddit AMA threads. We believe this app (and the new logo/branding) is a sign that reddit is evolving to bring more users to the their platform.
Why we love reddit’s new AMA application
The reddit AMA mobile app shows us that reddit is committed to developing extensions of their core platform that are easier to use and targeted in purpose. The AMA app proves that with just a few tweaks and a more user-friendly delivery, reddit can be a usable platform for anyone. We expect more innovation from reddit (and 3rd party developers) to extend the reddit platform in this manner.
We believe that easier-to-use and targeted extensions of reddit will draw more mainstream internet users to reddit. It is possible that in some cases, users may not even know they are consuming content from reddit. As more users become familiar with reddit, more leaders and businesses will begin to seek out opportunities to engage their audience through reddit.
New Branding for reddit?
We are also getting a first look at a new branding package for reddit. The alien has always been the official “mascot” of reddit but it is almost nowhere to be found on the reddit AMA app (can be seen on the loading screen). Could this be a look into the future of reddit’s branding? We think it is very plausible that the alien may be used in a limited fashion going forward. The new reddit “r” is a much more professional icon that may resonate with leaders and business owners.
We will have to wait and see what the next move is for reddit in regards to branding and add-on applications like the new AMA app. We hope to see more extensions and will expect more mainstream users to flock to reddit with each iteration.
