We guided LLC University Founder Matt Horowitz through a successful Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) in the Entrepreneur community on Reddit. Matt is an expert on LLC formation and has created step-by-step guides for all 50 states at LLCUniversity.com.
Build Matt’s reputation on Reddit within a niche business community and drive traffic to LLCUniversity.com.
Comment Engagement Before The AMA
Matt set up his account, using a personal identifying username. He began monitoring Reddit daily for opportunities to answer questions about forming LLCs. Before we even started planning the AMA, Matt commented on dozens of threads. This comment engagement phase taught Matt the technical aspects of Reddit, gave him a feel for the Reddit community, and created a visible pattern of helping others on the platform.
Planning The AMA
To create a custom AMA strategy for Matt, we had multiple discussions with him and conducted our own independent research. The initial plan included subreddit options for the AMA, scheduling recommendations, a draft of the AMA copy, verification instructions, and execution logistics.
This plan was reviewed with Matt and revised based on his feedback. Special attention was paid to the copy writing to make sure everything was written in Matt’s voice. We used rDrafts.com to preview and share the AMA before submitting. Before the AMA, we coached Matt on AMA best practices.
Executing The AMA
Under our guidance, Matt submitted his AMA to /r/Entrepreneur using the rDrafts app. Because Matt already had experience on Reddit, he was technically prepared to manage the AMA without direct response assistance.
Although Matt personally responded to AMA questions, we were available via Skype and email to provide recommendations or answer questions.
Matt’s AMA performed very well. It achieved a score of 60 points (88% upvoted), received 139 total comments, and was ‘stickied’ to the top of the subreddit. Matt’s user account now has 48 post karma and 104 comment karma.
As for web traffic, 63 new direct visitors went to LLCUniversity.com from the AMA. There was also a bump in search traffic and direct visits on the day of (and after) the AMA.
A surprising and valuable result was a message Matt received from a lawyer who is interested in setting up a Trademark coaching website, similar to LLC University. The worth of this relationship could prove to be immeasurable. More importantly, Matt is now in the position to conduct more marketing activities on Reddit that will further build his reputation, generate critical feedback on his product, and lead to valuable connections.
